Entrepreneur and Home Office ResourcesFlorida Entrepreneur Profits from Serial Killer
Being an entrepreneur can take many forms. Some have ideas that start mega-businesses. Others find a way, through their entrepreneurship, to help people. And others, with the benefit of the Internet, market clever products and fads. One has to wonder, how the success of the Pet Rock would have been affected with the help of the Internet?
An enterprising individual in Florida, however, has taken entrepreneurship down to an entirely new level. He is selling soil from the yard of serial killer Anthony Sowell's home and selling it for $25 per gram on his website called serialkillersink.net (link intentionally omitted). Eric Gein, the entrepreneur, expects to make $500 from this venture. While somewhat imaginative, Gein's enterprise is not without critics. Victims' families are in a word, outraged. A relative of one of Sowell's victims says Gein has no morals and encourages people to show the some compassion and not buy any of his products. For those that do not know, Anthony Sowell was convicted recently of murdering 11 women and disposing of their remains around his property. Gein, however, believes the soil from Sowell's property is valuable because the victims were buried in it. He goes on to admit, "we live in a sick world". Gein, apparently not this entrepreneur's real name, sells a line of products on his website he calls "murderabilia". These items, including dirt from Sowell's property, are from dozens of infamous killers. As a personal observation, the website Gein uses to sell his "murderabilia" is every bit as disgusting as the items themselves. Gein says he has never been to Sowell's home and had no part in taking dirt from the property. That job was left to an associate. However, he saw an opportunity to make a buck and certainly did not turn down the opportunity to profit from others' pain and suffering. Is Gein an innovator or just a rogue attention seeker? A fine line exists between entrepreneurship and abhorrently poor taste. Maybe the best way to deal with him is by not dealing with him at all.
