Have you ever felt in the office that you are already having too much meetings to the point that you already become inefficient at work? I do, because sometimes I think putting aside 30 minutes to an hour of your time every day just to update your colleagues about your work is pretty tedious and time-wasting. It's inefficient to say the least, because you could've just spent that time on something else. Maybe when you start in the morning you take some charge up time before you return to your productive norm, only to have this momentum stopped by the call of someone in your team for a meeting. It rids you of your autonomy while in the office because you are forced to sit down with your colleagues and wonder why you're there. Don't get me wrong here. Meetings do have their benefits. It's just that you could still make the most out of your meetings and make it efficient. From experience, I think it's most effective when meetings are held while standing up. You then avoid the wishy washy startup time that you spend on normal meetings and end up discussing only the things that matter because you don't like to spend loads of time standing up. I also think that it's important to note any action plans that were enacted after the meeting. If there are no action plans decided after the meeting, then the value of that meeting becomes subject to interrogation. Some people say that these meetings are just for updating, but this can be easily done through email. In relation to this, it is also important that you state the purpose of the meeting before you even start it so that you won't go lost in track. Time is money, so time lost is money lost.
